One thing we love about our job is meeting fabulous, fashion loving women! So, we thought we’d share with you a little more about one of our Estelle girls, Jo aka @icurvy
What are three words you would use to describe yourself?
Positive, Empathetic, Solution focussed
What is your favourite thing about fashion?
The way it can change your mood, outlook or even how the world perceives you. It allows you, creatively, to be anyone you want.
How did you get into influencing?
I hate the term ‘influencing’ because that is not what I ever set out to do – I think ‘influencing’ infers some sort of intention on my part - that I’m trying to persuade people to do something that they otherwise would not have done. I see myself as a sharer, and that is really how the whole thing got started for me. It was 9 years ago and I was just sharing my own personal outfits and participating in fashion challenges
What do you do with your time when you’re not taking beautiful content?
I work full time in HR, and I am mum to a very bubbly 6 year old. Between those things, I’m kept very busy. I wish I was still a book reader – but If I’ve got an hour to myself, I’m a switch-off-and-Netflix gal all the way.
What’s one thing that you think might surprise us about making content / influencing?
How isolating it can be. A lot of the time, especially when I’m recording video content – it’s just me and my phone. It’s why I love the comments section/DMs so much – it’s actually my chance to chat with people and interact – otherwise it’s a very one-sided conversation for me.
What are three things you would suggest to anyone wanting to take great content?
Lighting, lighting and lighting. You can have all the bells and whistles, technical gear and apps you want – but nailing your lighting brings content to life.
What is your go-to outfit for date night?
I’ve been married for 10 years so I’m not sure I remember those anymore – but certainly I love wearing a dress when we’re out with friends.
What is your favourite outfit for a winter’s day?
Summer has the great weather – but winter fashion is where it’s at! I love a statement coat and have broken many, many wardrobe rails with my statement winter coat collection. Bonus, they keep me warm as well as looking chic.
Where do you see yourself in another 5 years?
I could not have imagined 5 years ago that this is where I would be, so I really try not to be too specific about what my future looks like. I move towards the things that I enjoy, and I think great opportunities always come from that. Now that I’m almost 40 though – things are a little more stable on the horizon – I’ve already married my best friend and I have a wonderful kid who fills my life with joy, we’ve travelled a lot, and I have a great career. I already have so many things to be grateful for – I guess I hope to be in the same position in the future – grateful for the many joyful things in my life.
What are your 2021 ‘words to live by’?
Roll with it.
