It’s been a while since Tamara modeled for us so we thought we would catch up with her and see what she has been up to and what is inspiring her these days.

Who is Tamara Matecic?

I am still learning who Tamara is myself more and more with each passing day! But it is an exciting process and I am loving every step of my journey. Life is about constant growth and change.

How did you get to where you are today?

Consistency and persistence! Having a plan B and a plan C and a plan D… basically working my way through the alphabet until I find a way! Staying true to myself, taking on constructive criticism but also not letting anyone’s negativity or lack of belief in me burst my bubble. It is so important to believe in yourself, to be accountable, to be open to change and growth and to let go of anything and anyone that does not bring anything positive to your life. It is also important not to judge yourself based on where you are in life in comparison to others. Everyone’s path is different.

What did you want to do when you grew up?

Funnily enough, I used to walk around the house talking gibberish pretending I can speak multiple languages, talking about being a model and having a big mansion with lots of land for ALL the animals I would adopt!… still working on the mansion and land part but I do have 5 rescue 4 legged family members and I do speak 3 languages. So I suppose the rest is just around the corner? **crosses fingers**

You are a model by day but what keeps you busy when you’re not modelling?

I also work as a property manager in Real Estate, I play semi professional basketball, I try to maintain some kind of social life despite Melbourne’s bipolar weather, I spend copious amounts of time tagging my friends in memes that I find hilarious, Netflix, baking, random outburst of dance performances around my house, spur of the moment adventures, hiking, chasing waterfalls, and on some rare occasions I squeeze in some afternoon naps!

What’s your secret to juggling all your commitments and how do you chose to unwind?

The secret is that we have the same 24 hours in a day as Beyonce! haha. Actually I think BALANCE is key. I used to burn the candle at both ends until I’d run myself into the ground. But over the time I have learned to listen to my body. It is entirely acceptable to stop and have time out, have a lazy day, have some self-care time. I love to unwind with a sloth session of a Netflix marathon and some puppy or kitty snuggles. On the other hand, I also love to get out and about and immerse myself in nature, it is so revitalizing and energizing. Taking my dogs out and watching them socialize and interact with other dogs is something else I find therapeutic. I love incense and scented candles too. Indulging the senses can really help change the mood, up the energy or help you find some calm.

What is your definition of beauty?

Being 100% confident and comfortable in your own skin and who you are on the inside is what I define as beautiful. I think a person’s energy and presence far outweighs their aesthetic beauty. Kindness, consideration, empathy; all traits that make a soul beautiful. And a beautiful soul radiates from the interior to the exterior.

What makes you get out of bed in the morning?

My German Shepherd dropping every toy he owns on my head because it’s time to play! We have come to a really good agreement where if I take him out before I have to go to work or leave the house for long periods of time, he promises not to chew anything up in the house. I think being responsible for another living thing really gives an added sense of purpose. I want to do the best I can by my pets and if that means getting up at the crack of dawn every morning to take them for a run and play in the rain, hail or shine – I do not want to let them down. Especially when they have not had the best start to life in their initial homes.

What do you feel passionate about?

Life! Love! All living things! The treatment of animals! Body diversity! Acceptance! Breaking down social standards! Mental health awareness! Self love and self care! Growth! Personal development! Helping others! I feel they all intertwine in a sense. Again, making it about BALANCE and coming together to make a whole. These things fulfill me.
