About Ready Set
Ready Set is a small charitable organization that was founded in 2011 with a goal of empowering disadvantaged job seekers by providing clothing, coaching and connections to support their journey to employment.
Ready Set supports individuals who have faced, or are facing, multiple barriers to employment including poverty, discrimination, disability, domestic abuse, mental illness and trauma. It was the first charity in Australia of its kind to offer support to anyone regardless of gender, age and background and is still one of only a few that supports men, women and non-binary individuals. Support is available to anyone in need across Victoria both virtually and onsite, and virtually in Tasmania, and New South Wales, with South Australia and Western Australia soon to be launched.
The Impact
Since opening its doors, Ready Set has supported over 11,000 disadvantaged jobseekers and demand for services continues to grow. In 2022-23, the number of jobseekers accessing support almost doubled from the previous year. Over 30% of disadvantaged jobseekers are young people, 50% male and 50% female with a small number of non-binary individuals.
Ready Set supports people with clothing (for work and essentials), a toolkit for job-hunting (via coaching and online resources) and connections to community and the world of work. It also gives them confidence, a belief in themselves and a positive mindset about their potential.
Despite the current low unemployment rates, there are many in our community who simply don’t have the work they need to survive. Did you know that to be considered “employed”, it is sufficient to work 1 hour per week? Unemployment rates certainly masquerade underemployment figures. For many too, they lack the confidence and essential means to set themselves up to look for work. This is where Ready Set steps in.
Thank you for your support!
